Import guide

Bring your whole shelf with you.

Already cataloged somewhere else? Move movies, records, books, and games into Stowcase without entering every title again.

How it works

  1. 01

Download the original CSV from Blu-ray.com, Discogs, or Goodreads, or prepare a spreadsheet with one item per row.

  2. 02

In Stowcase, open Profile → Account → Import / Export → Import a file. CSV, TSV, XLSX, XLS, and JSON are supported, up to 20,000 rows and 25 MB per spreadsheet.

  3. 03

Choose the collection represented by the file and map any column Stowcase does not recognize. Your answers are remembered for next time. Discogs exports skip this step.

  4. 04

Check each proposed title, fix a bad match by searching the catalog, drop anything unwanted, send each row to your collection, wishlist, or watched list, then confirm.

Source-specific steps

Export the file Stowcase already understands.

Keep the service’s original column names. Stowcase already knows most of them and asks you about the few it does not.

Film

Blu-ray.com

Blu-ray.com’s own CSV export. Stowcase reads most of its columns on sight and asks you about the rest.

  1. 01Sign in to Blu-ray.com in a web browser and open your movie Collection.
  2. 02Choose Export, then export as CSV. Download the file without renaming or deleting its columns.
  3. 03If your 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD collections are shown separately, export each format and import the files one at a time.
  4. 04In Stowcase, open Profile → Account → Import / Export, choose Import a file, and select the CSV.
  5. 05On the Map your columns step, leave the file type on Film and map anything you want kept, then review the matched movies and confirm.

Read without any setup: Title, UPC, EAN, Casing, Slipcover, Date added, Price, Retailer, and Comment. The export has no single format column, so copies arrive as DVD unless you add a format column yourself with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, or DVD. Map Blu-ray discs or DVD discs to Disc count if you want the disc counts.

Music

Discogs

The Discogs collection export preserves the exact releases and pressings you cataloged.

  1. 01On Discogs, open your Collection from the menu next to your profile picture.
  2. 02Open the collection settings and choose Export My Collection, then download the CSV once Discogs says it is ready.
  3. 03Upload that CSV, unchanged, from Stowcase’s Profile → Account → Import / Export screen.
  4. 04Stowcase recognizes the export by its release_id, CollectionFolder, and Collection Media Condition columns, so there is no column mapping or review step to work through.
  5. 05If Stowcase holds Discogs-linked copies that are missing from the export, it asks which of them to remove before the import starts.
  6. 06Leave the import running in the background. You can close the status window and return to Last import status later.

Matching is on release_id, so keep that column intact. Artist, Title, Label, Catalog#, Released, Format, media and sleeve condition, CollectionFolder as the shelf, and Date Added as the purchase date all come across. A release listed as 2xLP, CD imports one copy per format. Large collections take longer because Discogs limits lookup speed, and only one Discogs import can run at a time.

Books

Goodreads

Goodreads exports your whole library, and Stowcase narrows it down to the physical books you own.

  1. 01On Goodreads, open My Books, then choose Import and export from the Tools area.
  2. 02Select Export Library and download the generated CSV.
  3. 03Upload the unchanged file from Stowcase’s Profile → Account → Import / Export screen.
  4. 04Kindle, ebook, and audiobook bindings are dropped. Any row Goodreads reports as zero owned copies comes back on an approval screen, so approve only the books you actually own.
  5. 05On the Map your columns step, set the file type to Books. It opens on Film, and that is the one setting worth slowing down for.
  6. 06Review the book matches, then confirm the import.

Stowcase links a book to a record it already holds by ISBN13. A row without one is catalogued from its own title and year instead, and you can point it at an existing book during review. Binding becomes the format, and Publisher, Year Published, Date Added, and Private Notes come across.

Excel, CSV, or TSV

Start with clean column labels.

Put the field names in the first row and one item on every row after it. Exact labels map themselves, and Stowcase asks you what any unfamiliar heading means. What you tell it is remembered for your next import.

Keep identifiers as text

Format UPC, ISBN, and ID columns as Text in Excel so leading zeros are not removed.

Say which collection the file holds

The mapping step asks once and offers every collection Stowcase has, including electronics, jewelry, Film & TV, and music. For a mixed file, add a vertical column naming the collection on every row. See the template guide for the full column list.

Use predictable values

Write dates as YYYY-MM-DD and yes or no answers as yes or no. Prices can keep their currency symbol, since Stowcase reads the number out of the cell.

One row per item

A spreadsheet import adds a single copy per item, and a second row naming the same item is reported as already owned. Add your other copies in the app once the import lands. Discogs exports are the exception: a release listed twice imports twice.
