Frequently asked questions
What to know about building, valuing, protecting, and sharing your inventory.
What is Stowcase?+
Stowcase is a detailed inventory for physical collections and household possessions. It combines fast capture, collection-specific metadata, copy-level records, valuations, documents, ownership tools, selective sharing, and insurance-ready reporting in one place.
Is Stowcase open to everyone?+
Not yet. Stowcase is invite-only while the cataloging experience is refined. You can request an invite from any page on this site and we'll reach out as access opens up.
What can I catalog?+
Stowcase supports Film & TV, music, books, video games, board games, electronics, appliances, furniture, jewelry, watches, art, instruments, tools, collectibles, and other household collections. Each item keeps the fields and metadata that make sense for its collection.
How do I add items?+
Scan a barcode, photograph media packaging, search by title, add an item manually, or import an existing file. For a home inventory, photograph one or more objects and Stowcase can suggest each name, collection, replacement cost, and readable serial number before you save them individually.
Can I bring in a collection I already track elsewhere?+
Yes. Stowcase supports imports from Discogs, Blu-ray.com, Goodreads, CSV, Excel, JSON, and TSV, with a review step before records are saved. The import guide covers supported exports and recommended spreadsheet columns.
Can I export my data?+
Yes. Export the collection as CSV, Excel, or JSON. The insurance report also creates a printable PDF, a working CSV, or a ZIP bundle containing the report and attached supporting documents.
How does valuation work?+
Stowcase can show market-based value estimates and condition bands where listing data is available. You can also record purchase price, replacement cost, appraised value, appraisal details, and whether an item is separately scheduled on an insurance policy. Estimates are reference points, not formal appraisals.
What does the insurance report include?+
The report totals documented value, identifies items with no value, summarizes rooms, and calls attention to categories that often have policy sub-limits. You can download a room-by-room PDF, CSV, or complete evidence bundle. Stowcase does not interpret your policy or replace advice from your insurer.
Can I attach receipts and appraisals?+
Yes. Supporting documents stay attached to the relevant item, including receipts, appraisals, serial photos, and other evidence. They can also be included in the full insurance bundle.
What collection management tools are included?+
Stowcase includes wishlists, loan and return history, box sets, watched and played activity, an Up next queue, search and filters, collection insights, physical locations, and moving-box tracking.
Is my collection public?+
It is private by default. You can separately choose whether your collection, wishlist, and sale prices appear on a searchable public profile. A public profile may show physical locations and whether items are loaned, but borrower identities, supporting documents, purchase details, and insurance records are not published.
What does Stowcase cost?+
Pricing has not been finalized while Stowcase is in its invite-only phase. Anyone with access today is helping shape what that looks like.
