The Great Outdoors

1988

Two Chicagoan families - the Ripleys and the Craigs - converge on a lakefront cabin in northern Wisconsin for a summer vacation, with tension brewing between the groups due to differing personalities and interests. Chet Ripley, the patriarch of the family, recounts a legendary tale of a man-eating grizzly bear, claiming to have defended himself against the beast with a shotgun. Unbeknownst to Chet, his brother-in-law Roman Craig has been hiding secrets, including financial struggles and a desire to invest in Chet's business ventures. As the families navigate their differences and encounter unexpected challenges, they eventually come together to face a common threat: a ferocious bear that wreaks havoc on their cabin, leading to a thrilling and ultimately redemptive conclusion.
