Airplane!

1980

Ted Striker, a traumatized war veteran turned taxi driver, boards a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago after catching his ex-girlfriend Elaine Dickinson at the airport, where she has just broken off their relationship. During the flight, he recounts the story of how they met, inadvertently driving fellow passengers to suicidal thoughts with his lengthy and rambling reminiscences. When the crew falls ill after consuming tainted fish, Elaine teams up with Dr. Rumack to guide Ted, who has a pathological fear of flying, in attempting to land the plane safely. As the plane faces complications, including nosy journalists and worsening weather, Ted musters the courage to take control, aided by Elaine's support and the guidance of his former commanding officer, Rex Kramer. Ultimately, Ted successfully lands the plane, rekindling his romance with Elaine and marking a triumphant return to flying.
