Captain Chesley Sullenberger takes off in US Airways Flight 1549 from LaGuardia Airport on January 15, 2009, alongside first officer Jeff Skiles. As the plane climbs out, it strikes a flock of birds, severely damaging both engines. With limited options, Sullenberger makes the unprecedented decision to ditch the plane onto the icy waters of the Hudson River, resulting in a miraculous evacuation of all 155 crew and passengers. Sully becomes an overnight hero for his remarkable feat of aviation skill, but soon faces intense scrutiny from the media and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Despite initial suspicions of pilot error, Sully works to prove that he acted correctly, arranging for simulations to be rerun with live pilots, and eventually receiving confirmation from the NTSB that the left engine had indeed been severely damaged, supporting his account of events. Through the ordeal, Sully credits the bravery of those on board and the heroic efforts of emergency responders for the successful outcome.
