In Wickliffe, Ohio, Bartleby Gaines, a charismatic high school senior, finds himself rejected by every college to which he applies, prompting him to devise a plan with his friends to create a fake university, the South Harmon Institute of Technology. Initially, the scheme fools Bartleby's parents, but things take a turn when the website automatically enrolls other applicants, leading to chaos. After a visit to Harmon College disheartens him with traditional college life, Bartleby decides to let the students create their own curriculum, resulting in an unconventional yet thriving institution. As the school gains popularity, Bartleby must confront the corrupt Dean of Harmon College, Richard Van Horne, who seeks to destroy old buildings to make his college appear more prestigious. Along the way, Bartleby finds love, forms unlikely alliances, and ultimately earns the respect of his family through his unorthodox approach to education.
