Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was formed by combining Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures into one company after Marcus Loew took control. The studio hired numerous well-known actors as contract players, adopting the slogan "more stars than there are in heaven," and quickly established itself as Hollywood's most prominent filmmaking company. Under this model, MGM produced successful musical films and won numerous Academy Awards. As part of its growth, MGM also expanded into film studios, movie lots, and technical production facilities, eventually becoming one of the largest entertainment conglomerates in the industry. This period of prosperity lasted until MGM underwent significant changes in the latter half of the century.
