During the final days of Japan's feudal era, a ruthless lord named Lord Matsudaira Naritsugu brutally terrorizes nobles and commoners, earning the ire of the Tokugawa Shogunate. To prevent Naritsugu from ascending to the powerful Shogunate Council, the Shogun's Justice Minister, Sir Doi Toshitsura, secretly hires a trusted samurai, Shimada Shinzaemon, to assassinate the lord. Alongside ten fellow samurai, including Shinzaemon's nephew, the group devises a plan to ambush Naritsugu in the town of Ochiai, utilizing a maze of booby traps and fortified defenses. The ensuing battle sees the assassins face off against Naritsugu's heavily armed retinue, resulting in significant losses on both sides. Ultimately, Shinzaemon confronts Naritsugu, leading to a fatal duel that leaves both men mortally wounded.
