Joel Schumacher
Born in New York City, Joel Schumacher began his career as a fashion designer before transitioning into filmmaking. He made his directorial debut in 1981 with the science fiction comedy The Incredible Shrinking Woman. Schumacher gained recognition with the coming-of-age drama St. Elmo's Fire and the comedy horror The Lost Boys. Throughout the 1990s, he directed numerous commercially successful films, including science fiction horror Flatliners, romantic drama Dying Young, action drama Falling Down, and adaptations of John Grisham novels The Client and A Time to Kill. Schumacher also took over the Batman film franchise with Batman Forever, which earned over $336 million.
