Novel
Jeff VanderMeer
Born on July 7, VanderMeer initially gained recognition within the New Weird literary genre before transitioning to writing the Southern Reach Series, which debuted with the novel Annihilation. This novel received the Nebula and Shirley Jackson Awards, and was later adapted into a Hollywood film directed by Alex Garland. In addition to his novels, including Shriek: An Afterword and Borne, VanderMeer co-edited several anthologies with his wife Ann VanderMeer, including The New Weird, The Weird, and The Big Book of Science Fiction. His writing often defies genre classification, incorporating elements from postmodernism, ecofiction, and post-apocalyptic fiction.
