Ernest Borgnine

Born Ermes Effron Borgnino, Borgnine began his acting career after serving in the United States Navy during World War II. His breakthrough role came in 1951 with the film China Corsair, followed by notable performances in From Here to Eternity, Vera Cruz, Bad Day at Black Rock, and The Wild Bunch. Borgnine won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Marty, a role that showcased his ability to play unconventional leads. Throughout his long career, he appeared in various television shows, including McHale's Navy, where he played the title character, and later voiced characters in animated series such as SpongeBob SquarePants. Borgnine continued to work in television until his final performance on the medical drama ER in 2009.
