DMX began making his own rap beats using an Oberheim DMX drum machine in the 1980s, a device that inspired his stage name. He gained widespread recognition in the late 1990s as a rapper and later expanded into acting, starring in films such as Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds. One of his notable albums, released in 1999, featured the hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)", which remains a commercial success. Additionally, DMX created a reality television series, Soul of a Man, which aired on the BET network. Before his death, he had written an autobiography titled E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX.
