Lady Sarah Ashley, an English noblewoman, travels to Australia in 1939 to persuade her philandering husband to sell his cattle station, Faraway Downs, but upon arrival, she finds herself embroiled in a complex web of politics and family secrets. With the outbreak of World War II looming, Lady Sarah forms an unlikely alliance with a rugged cattle drover, known as "The Drover", and a young Aboriginal boy named Nullah, who harbors a deep connection to the land and its native people. As they navigate the unforgiving Australian terrain, they face numerous challenges, including the ruthless ambitions of the station's manager, Neil Fletcher, and the devastating consequences of war. Along the way, Lady Sarah discovers a newfound sense of purpose and belonging, but ultimately must confront the harsh realities of her own past and the uncertain fate of those she loves.
