Apt Pupil

1998 · 107 min · R

A teenage boy becomes fixated on the possibility that his elderly neighbor may be a notorious former Nazi war criminal, and after a series of manipulative interactions, he succeeds in getting the old man to share gruesome stories of his time at concentration camps. As the boy's obsession deepens, he starts to use the old man's dark past to manipulate him into helping him improve his own academic standing, but their twisted game of power and control ultimately leads to devastating consequences. Meanwhile, the old man's grip on reality begins to slip, and the lines between good and evil become increasingly blurred. In the end, the boy's attempts to cover his tracks lead to a shocking revelation about his neighbor's true identity, and the old man's fate serves as a chilling reminder of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary lives.
