Founded in 1975 as an American film studio, PolyGram Filmed Entertainment gradually established itself as a significant player in the European film industry, rivalling Hollywood's dominance. The company produced a diverse range of notable films, including The Deep, released in 1977, and Midnight Express, released in 1978. This period also saw the release of cult classics such as An American Werewolf in London in 1981 and Flashdance in 1983. As the company continued to grow, it released critically acclaimed and commercially successful films like Batman in 1989, Candyman in 1992, and Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994, cementing its position as a major force in international cinema.
