Joel Coen, born in 1954, and his brother Ethan Coen, born in 1957, are American filmmakers who have directed numerous films spanning multiple genres and styles. They often subvert or parody these styles in their works, which include Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, and Fargo, among others. The brothers typically collaborate on writing, directing, and producing their films, initially crediting themselves separately until 2004, when they began receiving joint credits. This partnership has led to the duo earning 14 Academy Award nominations, including two individual nominations, as well as several notable wins, including Best Original Screenplay for Fargo and Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay for No Country for Old Men.
