Electronic Arts
Founded in May 1982 by former Apple employee Trip Hawkins, Electronic Arts was a pioneer of the early home computer game industry. Initially publishing games and productivity software developed by external individuals or groups, the company shifted towards internal game studios through acquisitions like Distinctive Software becoming EA Canada in 1991. In the 21st century, Electronic Arts developed and published a wide range of established franchises, including Army of Two, Battlefield, Command & Conquer, Dragon Age, Dead Space, Mass Effect, and The Sims. The company expanded into online gaming with the development of its self-developed EA App, offering desktop titles directly to consumers. As part of this shift, Electronic Arts acquired several major gaming studios, including BioWare and Respawn Entertainment.
